The Dental Association of Thailand presented Thailand's progress in implementing the Bangkok Declaration at the D20 International Workshop on Advancing Oral Healthcare: Strengthening Prevention, Standardization and Policy Implementation, organized by the Indian Dental Association on July 19-20, 2025 in Mumbai, India.
Following the Bangkok Declaration - a commitment by various countries to prioritize oral health in health system development during the WHO Global Oral Health Meeting in November 2025 - the Dental Association of Thailand, as a key civil society organization actively supporting this initiative, has brought Thailand's multi-dimensional progress to this international forum.
At this meeting, Dr. Adirek Sriwatanawongsa, President-elect of the Association, was invited as a speaker for the panel discussion on "Bridging Frameworks and Realities: Regional Insights in Implementing the Bangkok Declaration" alongside leaders from regional organizations including the World Dental Federation, Asia Pacific Dental Federation, and representatives from dental associations of various countries. Additionally, Lt. Col. Dr. Thanasak Thumbuntu, Deputy Secretary-General, presented Thailand's achievements during the Country Update session, highlighting progress in integrating oral health services into the public insurance schemes in Thailand at the primary care level and preventive services, while also analyzing challenges and future development approaches.
The Dental Association of Thailand is committed to enhancing the reputation of Thai dentistry, particularly in public health policy advocacy. Previously, it organized the National Dental Association (NDA) Forum where dental leaders from over 10 countries came together to exchange knowledge on organizational roles in policy implementation. At this D-20 meeting, Thailand's role was recognized as a model country capable of translating global declarations into local results and as a vital force in driving regional missions for universal good oral health.
